Time, she says, on all sides. Without shore. We drown if
we set foot in, though we’re bound to. As incurably as
proton and neutron are bound to the dim world of the
nucleus. And once we learn to breathe in the crash of
water desire rushes in, takes hold of our smallest ges-
tures as of a sail. But at the edge of the picture we fall.
And are born. In all directions.

Bio

Ahndraya Parlato was born in Kailua, Hawaii in 1979. In 2002 she received a B.A. from Bard College, where she majored in photography; and in 2005 she graduated from California College of the Arts with an M.F.A. Her work consists of large-format, color photographs that explore the distinctions between banality and normalcy, often revealing the uncanny or magical in everyday life. Amongst others, Ahndraya’s work has been shown at the 9W Gallery in New York City, The Helsinki Biennale, at the Helsinki Design Museum, Helskini, Finland, and most recently, at the International Fashion and Photography Festival in Hyéres, France. Ahndraya has lectured at California College of the Arts, in San Francisco, and is currently teaching at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York.
